The day of our Consecration Service in August of 2010, we were approached by some friends of this ministry to consider something God had placed upon their hearts. They have been directing special short term mission projects for their church over the past several years, with great success. They felt God's leading to help Deer Ridge Ministries with some remodeling needs at the retreat house as one of these mission projects. Wow! Amazing!
We knew the need for additional bathrooms and expanded working kitchen was in the future. But we were stunned to hear how God was working in their hearts for this need. As many times as God has provided, we never cease to be surprised by the creative ways He answers prayer!
This special project called a "Short Term Outreach - Deer Ridge Ministries Makeover," was scheduled for two weeks immediately following Christmas. There were four 3-day segments to the project (Dec. 27-29, Dec. 30-Jan. 1, Jan. 3-5, Jan. 6-8). Skilled workers (carpenters, plumbers, electricians) joined us in the effort. There were also several projects, which required willing workers, such as sealing rooms from dust, cleaning, kitchen help, "go-fers," etc. Of course, we needed more cleaning at the completion of the project to make ready for January retreats. Dan, Lori, Tom and Sue Miller headed up this mission outreach.
All the labor will was donated! We still need help with the materials cost. The overall cost for the kitchen and bathrooms materials was $30,000. We still need help paying this cost. But we are confident God will supply this need. We know we must share this need with our friends and ministry supporters. This project has helped us complete the work that was needed to make the retreat compliant with local regulations and codes. It also has allowed us to have four pastors (couples) each retreat week, instead of three. That will be at least 30 more pastors and spouses we can host each year!
This appeal does not diminish our current need for ongoing ministry retreat support. The monthly mortgage and utilities must be paid. ($2,400) We work very hard, doing whatever we can, praying these obligations are met. We pray daily that our God will supply every need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
We continue praising God for the support so many have provided. The stories of God's blessing upon the pastors and spouses who have come to us are nothing short of inspiring. This ministry is, without a doubt, one of the most needed in the Church! Pastors must have places to get away for rest, spiritual renewal and time with their spouse. They need to allow time for God to speak to them and minister to their soul. This is truly a place where the peace and presence of the Lord Jesus Christ is in evidence.
